Now that you have erased your preconceived notions, you are ready to meet Solid HarmoniE-the four-member all female pop groups that are anything but cliche. The group is made up of Brits- Beki Onslow(3 January 1975),Melissa Graham(10 October 1975),Mariama Goodman(25 December 1977) and American, Elisa Cariera(16 June 1978) who sing with unstoppable passion, energy and heart. With charm and grace, and most importantly the talents to not only make it in the big leagues ,but to carve a niche for themselves as divas of a new millennium. Solid HarmoniE hit the ground running and is breaking the barriers of stereotypical girl groups. There is a confidence-an assurance that is unique to SHE. As the support act for Backstreet Boys, Solid HarmoniE found themselves at the center of a phenomenon. Fans at 'sold out' Wembley Stadium were screaming and shrieking and asking for, 'just one more song.' SHE was shocked to learn the hoopla was for them-four newcomers to the music scene who relied on talent-not hype-to win over an audience. Solid HarmoniE brings a unique depth to pop music through their personalities and zest for life. The girls are more than a group, they are a group of individuals. Take Melissa who 'gloves up' for a few rounds of boxing-she's not trying to make a statement. She just enjoys boxing. It's who she is. Or Beki who has been known to do a spur-of-the-moment Bungee jump while on her way home from a 10,000 foot skydive-no press, no cameras-just a desire to live her life the way she chooses. There are no more girl-group rules to be broken because there are no more rules. Unlike their predecessors, Solid HarmoniE brings personality to the microphones every time they perform. It shows. One listen is all it takes to realize the girls will be dominating the airwaves with their September release of their single, 'I'll Be There For You,' produced by Dennis Pop and max Martin. The song begins with a clarity and smoothness and has a reminiscent feel of angels falling from the sky then quickly moves into a funky groove. Gary Wenner, directs the video that features SHE in surreal settings. The video captures a sense of Solid HarmoniE from the vibe of the group as well as the individual character of each member. It would seem that the four newest pop divas have dropped out of the sky, and yet each member of SHE brings a lifetime of devotion to her craft. Rebecca Onslow is from Wales and says she's known all her life that she was bound for stage-at least that's what her mom jokes as she tells the story of the doctor slapping Beki's bottom when she was born-she sounded so much more 'on key' than the other babies. Beki plotted her career chart by design, starring in every school production that came her way. When she performing arts schools. In early 1996,Beki joined a girl band in Germany Melissa Graham of Coventry, was living a somewhat parallel life. She had been performing since the age of 10 and she was the voice of Calvary, a popular Irish band. She loved the pubs and clubs and into something more exciting. One night while Melissa was singing, Beki wandered in and was instantly blown away when she heard Melissa's voice. She approached her after the gig and introduced herself with an offer to team up and tour with her. Two down. Two to go. Beki and Melissa went to Germany for a short tour and received ovations wherever they performed. But they soon realized, two's company-three's a group. So the girls came to America in an attempt to find member number three. After days of auditioning singers and coming up empty, Beki, Melissa and their managers, Donna and Johnny Wright, consoled themselves with some comfort food at a popular Italian restaurant. Wearing their disappointment on their faces, a waitress asked them why they were so glum. They explained their situation and the waitress quickly told them that the restaurant owner's daughter sings .A hastily arranged audition in the ladies' room was Elisa Cariera's break. Elisa, a native of Orlando Florida, also has been singing all her life. She dreamed of performing professionally but never knew how to get into the business. The irony is that while helping in her family's restaurant she was within walking distance of the management office of not only Solid HarmoniE, but of the world famous Backstreet Boys as well. At last the girls were set-or so they thought, Mariama Goodman of London was part of the original group and toured with Beki and Melissa in Germany but left when her mother fell ill. They were all having dinner one night-Mariama and the SHE girls, when a spontaneous decision was made. After some brief whispers, the girls blurted out that they would like Mariama to consider rejoining. She burst into sobs and choked out a 'yes.' The only snag was that SHE was on tour as of the next morning and Mariama had to learn the songs and dance routines literally overnight. The last chapter of their formation was written. Solid HarmoniE does more than just sing to its audience. They 'give.' They put on more than a concert-they put on a show. The singing and dancing meld and emit an incredible energy that speaks to the audience. The SHE dance routines are choreographed by Robert Jaquez, a hip young dancer/choreographer who keeps the tempo of the show with hip hop style movements and utilizes two back-up male dancers-Steve Soto and himself. The shows are non-stop action and as Robert notes, interest is rising in the girls for more challenging routines. What's next for Solid HarmoniE? The girls kick off the season with a cheerleading stint for their favorite team, the Backstreet Boys, at a celebrity basketball game in Berlin on September 10th. Next it's on the road with 'N Sync at the end of September which is quickly followed up with a tour through Asia, the pacific region, Japan, India and Africa. The members of Solid HarmoniE aren't just singers. They aren't just dancers. They have personalities and character and insights that make them more than pop entertainers-more than a girl-group. They have depth. They have opinions. They have aspirations. They are solid.
